A Biedermeier spring idyll unfolds along an old canal. On the right-hand side, elegant figures stroll along a natural sandy path. The ladies hold lace parasols against the sun. Some of the gentlemen carry elegant walking sticks, used less for medical reasons than for fashion. Children, dressed in their Sunday best, push hoops or carry other toys: hobbyhorses, small balls, and a small dog circling the scene, barking happily. The canal is just wide enough for several young people to enjoy the idyllic scene in a wooden rowboat, the young ladies, of course, also with lace parasols. The left bank is densely overgrown with reeds and other aquatic plants.
