LONG LIVE THE QUEEN Long Live the Queen was the first visual novel I ever played, and I was struck with how complex the character arc for Elodie was. Her ascension to the throne is sudden, and comes at the death of her mother. At the start of the game, she’s scared and sad and overwhelmed, and she has very little time to become some kind of ruler. More than in most stories about princesses, you really feel the immense political pressure she’s placed under — while also feeling the responsibility you have to guide her through assassination attempts, court lessons, and plenty of intrigue.
