The Goose Girl is a fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm. A king's daughter is pushed out of her intended role as bride by a rival of low birth and is forced to tend geese instead. The fairy tale draws its poetic power from strong images (drops of blood from the mother, the talking head of the killed horse Falada,
"O you Falada, how you hang" - so says the maid to the horse's head that is nailed to the gate. The town has a special "large, dark gate" that the goose girl has to go through morning and evening.
