ArtistDo not change absolutely anything!
During autumn 1989, preceding the December uprising (which constituted a coup d'état resulting in Nicolae Ceaușescu and his wife being apprehended and executed in a manner reminiscent of organized crime by those who assumed control), Romania's president Nicolae Ceaușescu traveled to Moscow for an official visit (a customary requirement for all leaders of the former communist bloc to report on their nation's activities). Following his return to Romania, the Council of Ministers convened, and the prime minister inquired about Ceaușescu's meeting with Gorbachev. Ceaușescu responded:
"Gentlemen, Gorbachev is dying!"
The ministers reacted with shock.
"What did you say?"
"I said Gorbachev is dying!"
A heavy silence followed. Eventually, the prime minister asked:
"How did you determine this?"
Ceaușescu explained:
"As I was departing, Gorbachev told me 'Nick, I see you for the last time!'"
Impressionist oil painting depicting a meeting between two men, likely political figures Nicolae Ceaușescu and Mikhail Gorbachev. Both men are seated in ornate, gilded armchairs against a textured and colorful background featuring hints of flags and a clock. The man on the left, Ceaușescu, has thick, wavy grey hair and is wearing a dark suit with a patterned tie. He is looking towards the right, smiling slightly, with his hands clasped in his lap. The man on the right, Gorbachev, is bald on top with grey hair on the sides and the characteristic birthmark on his forehead. He is also wearing a dark suit and a patterned tie, and is looking towards the left, smiling. The background is a mix of abstract and figurative elements, rendered with thick, visible brushstrokes and a palette of blues, yellows, reds, and browns. Between the two figures, slightly in the background, is a small table with a floral arrangement. The lighting is soft and natural, highlighting the facial expressions and the texture of the painting.
