In Judges Chapter 11, a story is told,
Of Jephthah, a warrior, valiant and bold.
He was once an outcast, disowned and scorned,
But his fighting skills were fiercely adorned.
When Ammonites attacked his land,
Jephthah was called to take a stand.
He made a vow to God above,
Promising a sacrifice in the name of love.
With God's favor, he won the fight,
But his vow brought forth a dreadful sight.
For his only daughter, his beloved child,
Was the sacrifice, the vow so wild.
Jephthah's heart was filled with pain,
As he fulfilled his vow with sorrow's strain.
A tragic tale of a promise made,
A heavy price, on an altar laid.
The lesson from Judges Chapter 11,
Is to be cautious with vows we pen.
To think before we make a pledge,
And not be swayed by emotions' edge.
For words once spoken, cannot be taken back,
So let us vow with wisdom's track.
And remember Jephthah's solemn fate,
When making promises, lest it's too late.
