The universe was simple before the strange beings found their refuge within humanity. We, the humans, as open as we aspire to be couldn't anticipate the future consequences that the aliens would spring upon us. One of the great underground markets that resulted was genetic assimilation. Creating beings that were neither SGRs nor humans.
