Chapter 41 – The Place That Existed Before the Cottage – Part 1 – The Room Before the First Room REFERENCE IMAGES – use these supplied references faithfully: CR-01a – Mara CR-01b – Linora CR-15 – The Vanished Wizard CR-05 – Sir Fegelot and Madam Arabica Keep all referenced characters faithful to their reference appearance, clothing, proportions and design. Create a realistic painterly fantasy storybook illustration, 4:3 landscape, cinematic composition, detailed natural characters, soft volumetric light and gentle magical atmosphere. Scene: Mara and her companions have discovered a forgotten chamber connected to the history of the Cottage. The room has pale aged walls, a wooden floor and warm golden ambient light. On the far wall hangs an unusual black clock with no hands or numbers, displaying only a softly glowing silver open-circle symbol. Beneath it stands a simple wooden table holding three separate antique keys: two dark keys and one luminous silver key. Mara stands prominently in the foreground, matching CR-01a exactly: golden-blonde hair, blue eyes, freckles, forest-green tunic, dark trousers and brown boots. A narrow green ribbon with a fine dark stripe is tied around her wrist. She looks with curiosity toward a newly revealed passage. Linora, matching CR-01b exactly in her deep-blue tunic, stands beside Mara. The Vanished Wizard, matching CR-15 exactly, stands nearby with long silver-grey hair, short white-grey beard, dark embroidered robe, brown boots, twisted wooden staff and small glowing bottles at his belt. He studies the discovery thoughtfully. Sir Fegelot and Madam Arabica, matching CR-05 exactly, are clearly visible near the newly revealed passage. Sir Fegelot faces it with recognition while Madam Arabica stands beside him. The passage is framed by a delicate silver glow and opens onto a beautiful dreamlike expanse of luminous white mist. A narrow dark pathway crosses the mist. In the distance stands a friendly mysterious traveller wearing a pale coat, raising one hand in greeting. The traveller remains distant and is not a main portrait subject. Create a strong sense of discovery and ancient forgotten magic. Warm golden room light contrasts with the luminous silver-white mist beyond. Add subtle reflections, delicate atmospheric haze and realistic detailed textures. Clean balanced composition: Mara as main foreground focus; Linora and Vanished Wizard nearby; Sir Fegelot and Madam Arabica near the passage; black clock and table with three keys clearly visible; distant pale-coated traveller framed naturally by the passage. No extra characters, no duplicate characters, no animals, no dramatic action, no captions, no decorative border. Bottom-right: small unobtrusive white full-body unicorn logo with exact text “AI by Unicorngraphics”. 4:3 landscape, realistic painterly fantasy storybook illustration, cinematic soft lighting, natural proportions, detailed textures, warm mysterious atmosphere.

Three slow knocks sounded beyond the room. Mara’s fingers remained on the silver key. Tiktora showed the broken circle. “Do not answer,” the vanished wizard said. Sir Fegelot turned. “Nobody answered the previous knocks either.” Another three came. Madam Arabica rolled closer to the table. “They are getting nearer.” Mara lifted the silver key. “What does this open?” “I don’t know,” the wizard said. Linora frowned. “You remember leaving it.” “I remember placing it here. Nothing before. Nothing after.” Lumio flashed. THIRD KEY — FIRST RECORD. Biblior looked around. “Perhaps this is not a place.” “A record,” Memoris said. The faceless figure crossed the threshold. “No. The record came later. This place came first.” Three knocks sounded again. Mara looked toward the far wall. “Where are they coming from?” Sir Fegelot rolled toward it. “There used to be another room.” The Cottage groaned behind them. “There was not.” Madam Arabica rattled. “There was.” A thin line appeared in the wall. “Do not remember,” the Cottage ordered. Sir Fegelot’s bristles rose. “That is becoming tiresome.” The line extended downward. Horologia watched Tiktora. “The symbol is reacting to them.” “Because they remember what the Cottage cannot erase,” Linora said. The vanished wizard looked at Sir Fegelot. “Do you remember being made?” Silence. Sir Fegelot turned toward Madam Arabica. “Do you?” “No.” Mara looked between them. “What is your first memory?” Madam Arabica answered. “Waiting.” “For what?” “For someone to come through that wall.” The line completed a rectangle. There was no handle. Three knocks came from the other side. Mara felt the silver key warm in her hand. The faceless figure stepped back. “That is not for the door.” “How do you know?” “The door had no lock.” Lumio chirped. FIRST RECORD changed to FIRST WITNESS. Biblior stared. “The key belongs to a witness?” “Or opens one,” Aven said. The wizard shook his head. “Keys open places.” Mara looked at him. “Places are not always rooms.” The broken circle pulsed. For one instant the walls disappeared. Mara stood in white mist. No Cottage. No shelter. No grey road. Only a black line beneath her feet. Someone stood ahead holding the silver key. She could not see their face. The vision vanished.
