Limerence is an involuntary state of intense desire. People with limerence often experience intense emotional distress, including anxiety, depression, and feelings of despair. This psychological condition is not widely known about, even by Psychologists etc. The study of limerence has been around since the 1970s and is often associated with the work of psychologist Dorothy Tennov.
Limerence is not an officially recognized disorder in the DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders), it is often discussed in the context of other disorders such as obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) or borderline personality disorder (BPD).
