Back Street was originally named Backhouse Street after Dr. Earl Backhouse, who helped design Biggs City. However, a generation later "backhouse" became a euphemism for outhouses, so the street was renamed by city boosters. The good doctor's family didn't complain : most of them had already legally changed their family name to Backus.
[With apologies to William Faulkner - I thought "back-street" and went on a narrative ramble in search of an, er, back story].
