There is a well known quantum equation, by Schrodinger (of Schrodinger's Cat fame) which postulates that physics phenomena are the result of a "wave function", and these waves in the "quantum field" are continuous and can interact and interfere, to generate physical phenomena. When a "measurement" (an "intentional" interaction which increases local entropy) occurs, the "wave function" is said to "collapse", that is, the function acquires a definite result rather than a superposition of a set of random results. This "collapse" is what we experience as consciousness or awareness. It is said to be experienced by the microtubules in the brain and neurological system.
