It turns out that not all Nordic aliens are beautiful, because even aliens get old when they run out of life prolongation tricks. It's just that the beautiful ones get the Contact duty, because they're not scary - so they're better able to put humans at ease when using their alien powers of psychic mind control.
As they age, Nordics' resemblance to humans changes to the extent that they become "funny-looking," like the Elder shown here.
