Pan is the ancient Greek god of the wild, who symbolized spring energy and fertility. Hailing from the rugged region of Arcadia, he is typically shown with the horns, ears, legs, and hooves of a goat on a human-like body. He ruled over mountains, forests, meadows, and hidden valleys, protected herdsmen and their animals, loved playing his Syrinx (a multi-reed flute) which he invented. He also found delight in chasing nymphs throughout the beautiful forests of Greece. Pan is sometimes depicted with a staff entwined in grapes, it highlights his close mythological connection to Dionysus, the god of wine, ritual madness, and ecstasy.
