More about Cody's Eye This Protecting Is Meant To Be Ongoing 2025A.D.

Jesus came to save, to bless, to redeem, and to protect. A primary focus of Jesus' last moments with his disciples was protection. He wanted to protect them spiritually from discouragement, so he told them about what was going to happen to him and promised to send the Holy Spirit as the Comforter and Counselor to help them. He wanted to protect them physically, so he took control of his own arrest [1] and made sure that his disciples were not involved with the torturous night and day that followed. All of this meant that he had to bear his impending death, his mockery of a trial, and his agonizing trip to the cross alone. Why did he do it this way? Because of his love for his own and his desire to protect them. And that, dear friend, is how he cares for you, too!
Context: In his high-priestly prayer, Jesus is praying for his followers both present and future. He states he has given them God's word, and because they no longer belong to the world, the world will hate them, just as it hated him.
The prayer for protection: Jesus doesn't ask for his followers to be removed from the world, but asks God to "protect them from the evil one". This protection is meant to be ongoing.
The role of the "evil one": The "evil one" or "prince of this world" has no power over Jesus, but the prayer acknowledges the spiritual battle his followers will face. The world's hatred and negative influences can act as a form of spiritual pressure on believers.
The role of sanctification: Jesus also asks that God "sanctify them in the truth," explaining that "your word is truth". This connects protection from evil with being made holy through God's word.
