Legend tells of an Emperor who fell in love with a Princess named Kaguya, an actual moon princess. When celestial beings took her home, the Emperor was left only with an apology letter and an immortality elixir.
Deeply saddened, the Emperor ordered his men to burn the letter and elixir on top of Japan's highest mountain. The smoke and fire reached as high as the moon and ignited the volcano that became known as Immortal Mountain (不死, Fushi).
That mountain is now called Mount Fuji, and the dream has split it into two, one for the immortal Moon Princess, and the other for the Earth Emperor, who couldn’t live eternity without her.
