The Sphinx (Greek: Σφίγξ /sphinx, Bœotian: Φίξ /Phix), is an Egyptian monument in the form of a statue with a lion's body and a human head. He guards tombs and temples. The Phoenicians and the Greeks simulated the erection of statues resembling the Sphinx. However, they are winged and their heads are like a woman's head. The Great Sphinx of Giza is the most famous. It was carved from stones and his head represents King Khafra, who lived in the 26th century BC. M. It is 24 feet long and 66 feet high. There are several Egyptian statues in the form of the Sphinx, representing kings and the sun god. And most probably the face of the sculpt had a beard. Several statues were placed on both sides of the roads leading to the Pharaonic temples in Thebes.[1] However, their heads are like rams' heads. It is said that the Great Sphinx of Giza symbolizes the god Hur.

Located on the Giza Plateau on the west bank of the Nile in Giza, Egypt, the Great Sphinx is also the guardian of the plateau. It is the oldest known colossal sculpture, its length is about 73.5 meters, including 15 meters the length of its front legs, its width is 19.3 meters, and its highest height from the surface of the earth is about 20 meters to the top of the head. It is believed that the ancient Egyptians built it during the reign of Pharaoh Khafra (2558-2532 BC), the builder of the second pyramid in Giza.

It is believed that the Sphinx was quarried before King Khafre thought of carving it in the form of a statue, and this statue looks to the east, so the original directions were changed in the last century to match the Sphinx's view.
