The Holy Ghost, a member of the Godhead, bears witness of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. He is the source of personal testimony and revelation. He can guide us in our decisions and protect us from physical and spiritual danger. He is known as the Comforter, and He can calm our fears and fill us with hope.
Who is the Comforter in John 14 16?
Explanation and Commentary of John 14:16
After dying on the cross for their sins, he would rise again and ascend into heaven, at which point he will send the comforter, the Holy Spirit, the advocate, to help them and to be with them forever. In this way, Jesus will be with them until the end of the age (Mt 28:20).
The Spirit is our Comforter, and He is so much more: our Counselor, Encourager, and Helper. Who did Jesus call the Comforter?
He and Heavenly Father sent the Holy Ghost as the Comforter to His disciples to help.
Comforter-
the designation of the Holy Ghost ( John 14:16 John 14:26 ; 15:26 ; 16:7 ; RSV marg., "or Advocate, or Helper; Gr. paracletos"). The same Greek word thus rendered is translated "Advocate" in 1 John 2:1 as applicable to Christ. It means properly "one who is summoned to the side of another" to help him in a court of justice by defending him, "one who is summoned to plead a cause." "Advocate" is the proper rendering of the word in every case where it occurs.
