I read that 'um die Radieschen von unten ansehen' translates as 'to look at the radishes from underneath' and is an idiomatic phrase in Germany similar to the English idiom "pushing up daisies'. Apparently the Dutch have a blend of those two elements with 'De madeliefjes van onderen bekijken' translated as 'look at the daisies from below'. And I've read that in Poland they say, 'Wąchać kwiatki od spodu' translated as 'smell the flowers from underneath'! Not too long ago I went to a lecture that was mostly attended by people my age (73), and it began with "Welcome to this side of the dirt!. Aren't we lucky to still be here?!"
