(Also read the earlier descriptions) By now, the Pentium PC's were commonplace, and minicomputers had become obsolescent. And it was faster to emulate a virtual machine on a PC than build it in hardware. So we merrily hacked around with MFC and NT and totally rewrote the instruction set to be more object-oriented, using segmentation to obviate the need for serialisation/persistence and link-loaders (yay, no data files or DLLs needed).
