I was lost when I was left, but you found me,
Dark days, old memories haunted me.
You sang to me when I shivered in fear;
It took time to learn your song and your dance,
But you were patient and gave this girl a chance.
Now I don’t push you away - I want you near, right here.
You taught me what I’d forgot,
That I wasn’t the bad girl - he was the bad man.
Because of you, I’m no pup to abandon.
I’m your brindled Irish rose, as the saying goes -
your lass am I- why yes and aye,
You’re my lad - my human dad -
the one I never had.
Though my mind still trembles in thought,
when I recall being a fragile twig,
But that was then - this is now,
I can sing your song and dance our jig.
Now I don’t push you away - I want you near, right here.
