ArtistAs one steps into the palace, they are greeted by the Great Hall, a vast chamber with towering pillars made of polished ebony wood, intricately carved with Yoruba or Nsibidi symbols of wisdom, strength, and unity. The walls are covered in elaborate murals depicting the ancestors, legendary battles, and the gods who blessed the kingdom. The ceiling, woven from palm fronds and lined with gold-painted rafters, allows streams of sunlight to filter through, casting warm golden patterns on the polished red clay floors. The floor itself is covered in fine animal-skin rugs—leopard and antelope hides, symbols of royalty and bravery. At the far end of the hall, the King’s Throne sits on an elevated platform, carved from sacred iroko wood and adorned with gold and coral inlays. The throne is backed by a massive panel of woven beadwork, illustrating the lineage of past rulers. To either side of the throne, chiefs and nobles’ seats are arranged in a semicircle, their chairs crafted from ornately carved wood with cushions of the finest woven kente fabric. Large bronze oil lamps, shaped like elephants and birds, are placed strategically around the hall, their flames flickering gently, illuminating the room with a warm, golden glow. The air is filled with the subtle scent of burning frankincense and shea butter, carried through the hall by a cool breeze from the palace’s open archways.
