Create an image from the following:- Not alone I woke before the sun could name the hours, before the world remembered how to be ordinary, and the dark still clung to my eyelids like a held breath that wouldn’t go. In the room, the dream broke apart slowly, a frightened animal backing away from the light, and there I was, wide awake, hearing my own heart tap out an answer it couldn’t speak in sleep. Ian took hold of me. Held close and tight, not as a chain, but as a boundary the nightmare couldn’t cross, as if safety had hands, as if comfort could be steady, as if being held meant, Im here, Im safe, Im real. So I lay still, listening, for the last echo of dread to fade, for the soft return of morning, for the quiet that comes after claws release. And morning came in pieces, gray on the windows, bird-sound gathering outside, My own body remembering how to rest. The dream was gone, but its fear had left a mark, and still, in the waking, I was gathered into warmth, kept company by that simple truth. I woke, and I was not alone. Thoughts of a young gay guy.
