Inspired by the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire of March 25, 1911, in New York City. The fire broke out in a garment factory located in the Asch Building in Manhattan, where many immigrant women, mostly young and from European countries like Italy and Eastern Europe, worked.
The factory owners had locked the exit doors to prevent theft and unauthorized breaks, trapping many workers inside when the fire started. As a result, 146 workers—most of them women—died either from the fire, smoke inhalation, or by jumping from the building to escape the flames.
