ArtistView through large open double French doors of the courtyard of Chateau de Saint-Cloud shrouded in fog on a gloomy November day. Emerging from the mist is the shadowy figure of Napoleon Bonaparte, aged 30, dressed in the dark blue uniform of a French republican general, including white breeches, navy blue coat of a French revolutionary genera with brass buttons and epaulettes, and Napoleon's famous sideways cocked bicorn hat. His facial features are indistinct in the mist and low light but his outline is clearly visible. Oil on canvas painted in the style of Jacques Louis David.
Upscaled version of my prior Brumaire image. Brumaire was the second month of the French Republican Calendar, corresponding to the period from around October 21 to November 20. The month is best remembered for the coup of `18 Brumaire in the year VIII when Napoleon overthrew the Directory and became First Consul.
