ArtistThe Fjord of Silence. Grey fog hangs low upon the ancient stone, The North Atlantic breathes its heavy sigh. Beside the path, I stand here all alone, Beneath a vast and unchanging sky. The grass is green upon the weathered roof, The earth is damp beneath my leather shoes. A single sheep is grazing on the steep, It knows no hurry, knows no modern time. The secrets that these deep dark waters keep, Are carved in cliffs that only eagles climb. We mend the wood, we tend the quiet land, Life moves as slow as water over sand. Oh, call of the fjord, where the cold waters run, We live by the wind and the pale winter sun. So simple, so wild, where the great mountains rise, We find our peace under heavy grey skies. Held by the earth, away from the crowd, Where the silence is loud. No smoke of cities poisons this clean air, Only the hearth fire burning in the night. The waves below wash away every care, Leaving the soul unburdened and light. We ask for little, nature gives us all
