This is the image (though not quite as large) I see when I hear Khatchatourian's Waltz from his Masquerade Suite. The waltz has kind of a somber eerie tune that always reminds me of Edgar Alan Poe's Masque of the Red Death, wherein the rich and beautiful have sealed themselves inside an abbey to escape the scourge of the plague and determined none of the peasants will get in. Of course, the plague was already in their midst, as they will soon find out.
