Elisabeth Amalie Eugenie of the House of Wittelsbach, Duchess in Bavaria.
She was loved by the people who named her Sisi.

Her life was difficult, and in the end she was murdered in 1898.

The Sissi movies, beginning with the original Austrian film in 1955, became famous worldwide.
In these films, Sisi was played by Romy Schneider, whose performance made her internationally renowned.

Meanwhile, the musical Elisabeth premiered in Vienna in 1992, originally in German, and has since been translated into 10 languages and performed in 14 countries, reaching more than 12 million people.

Its most famous song is “I Belong to Me”, sung here by Dutch star Pia Douwes:
