More about Nobody told me (poem)

Nobody told me there'd be days like these,
I heard those words long ago,
I didn't believe them.

It sounded so farfetched,
it sounded stretched,
an odd cartoon of words.

Days like these?
Ha,
I do as I please.

Nothing is wrong,
nothing wrong so much that it matters,
that's what I thought.

I heard those words,
days like these,
when I was young and full of myself.

I did not listen,
I did not care,
I had tickets to life.

Monsters came,
monsters went,
they wouldn't get me.

Sailing was smooth,
the wind was right,
I slept well at night.

I was cozy,
comfort was my friend,
all was alright.

But the mistake I made,
was standing in shade,
quite shielded from light.

No,
don't look at truth,
take charge of life I said.

Don't let the bad guys get you,
It's all up to me,
and so I thought.

But somebody did tell me,
There'd be days like these,
his name was John.

And now I know,
now I see,
there are days like these.

And it's not all about me.
