Prompt: How will you find rest
In the forests of thought
Where outcasts lay strewn like stones on a road,
Whose usefulness is to sharpen your claws?
It is not your fault they chose your road.
Do you find fulfillment in slinking through shadows
Invisibly clad in every nightmare
From the past and the future in each child’s mind
As they hide from what lies neath the bed each night.
And mothers hide them beneath the tales
Of a hero to come and save them from ill,
Teaching in time all hopes and dreams
To thwart their knowledge of your evil will.
And thus, as a shadow is crept,
You emerge in her mind
Now she turns as no sleep can she find
But her head fills with thoughts of the innocent child
Tossed upon the sea of ever-changing truth,
Left to the merciful hands of the reckless and wild.
Does it please you
To hear the screams?
To know that innocence is sacrificed every moment
In time spent when you step out from behind
The corner of the curtain or the back of the mind?
You swore in your bitterness ever to be
The beast and the culprit
