HEADLESS GUY RETURNS TO LA !

This painting depicts the most recent sighting of Headless Guy, which took place last month [ July 2023 ].

The witness, depicted under the tree at right, said that she froze in place as soon as her eyes and brain realized that a headless man in a tailored suit was nonchalantly standing on the main walk, seemingly waiting for something.

"He was like in the news shows, just nothing above the collar, no bloody stump or anything," she said. "And just like in those shows, when his chest turned toward me, he waved hello and I un-froze, just like that. I got away as quick as my feet would carry me !"

She did add something new to witness accounts, however, saying, "When he turned toward me, it seemed like there was something, something real little, just barely sticking up *over* his collar. I only saw it for a split second, but ever since then I've been wondering if maybe he was *growing* a head."

If she is right, this would explain a lot, like how Headless Guy is always able to evade capture by the large vigilante mobs who have been hunting him since the first sightings. It also increases the likelihood that there is more than one Headless Guy and maybe even Headless Women. If they have heads some or most of the time, they could be anybody, even your favorite neighbor.

But is this so bad ? No account of the Headless Guy says that he has ever done anything to hurt anybody, just scared them. In fact, his only sin seems to be not having a head, even as the mobs say that his existence is unnatural and so he must be put down. I would counter that the mobs should focus their ire on the unsavory *humans* making our public spaces into their bases of operation - oh, but wait, some of those humans shoot back, don't they ? Easier to hurt somebody who only waves hello - but haven't people always feared what they don't understand ? HG's very existence is as much miracle as mystery - and miracles give us hope. Maybe we should appreciate that.
