The Titanic was a British passenger liner that famously sank in the North Atlantic Ocean on April 15, 1912, during its maiden voyage from Southampton, England, to New York City. The ship, deemed "unsinkable" at the time, struck an iceberg and subsequently sank, resulting in the deaths of more than 1,500 passengers and crew members.
The Titanic was constructed by the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and was one of the largest and most luxurious ships of its time. It had numerous amenities, including a swimming pool, gymnasium, libraries, and opulent first-class accommodations.
On the night of April 14, 1912, the Titanic's crew received multiple iceberg warnings but continued to sail at a high speed through a region known for its icy conditions. At approximately 11:40 PM, the ship struck an iceberg on its starboard side, causing significant damage to the hull.
