The universe is all of the matter, energy, and space that exists and can be observed. It includes everything we can see and know, including all galaxies, stars, planets, and other objects. The Milky Way is one of the hundreds of billions of galaxies in the universe and it is shaped like a flat disk with a central bulge, and has a spiral pattern of stars and gas. The Milky Way contains billions of stars, as well as gas, dust, and dark matter, and it is estimated to be about 100,000 light-years in diameter. The universe is estimated to be around 13.8 billion years old, while the Milky Way is thought to be about 13.6 billion years old. In terms of structure, the universe is homogeneous and isotropic on large scales, meaning it has the same properties in all directions, while the Milky Way has a defined structure with distinct regions such as the disk, bulge, and halo.
