I had to admit defeat on this one : I couldn't come up with a solid back-story to explain the yellow illumination in every corner of the complex. I think it would give intense headaches to every species with perception in the visible range, but the sheer number of species suggest that there would have to be one somewhere that needed yellow light for optimal vision, so I shrugged and moved on...
