Poem by Flora Fearne
THE LITTLE MEN
Would you see the little men
Coming down a moonlit glen?-
Gnome and elf and woodland sprite,
Skipping, hopping, never stopping,
Stumbling, mumbling, grumbling, tumbling,
Dancing, prancing, singing, swinging-
in Coats of red and coats of brown,
Put on straight or upside down
Outside in or inside out,
Some with sleeves and some without,
Rustling, bustling,
stomping, romping,
Strumming,
humming,
hear them coming
You will see
the Little Men
If it be
a Fairy glen.
GNOMES AND MUSHROOMS
MUSHROOMS AND GNOMES
WHAT’S THE CONNECTION?
(Find out, if you will, in the comment below.)
Would you see the little men
coming down a moonlit glen?
---------------------------------
THIS REMINDS ME…
OF THE…
Hundreds
of
small statues
of humans
with mushroom heads
that have been found
from the ancient Mayan culture
that are at least 1,000 years old.
also of,
Ötzi, The ICE man,
who was born
around 3,345 years BC
He was found carrying
two kinds of mushrooms,
one of which was
Amadeu,
known to be used as a
fire starter.
HUMANS
have had a
RELATIONSHIP
WITH MUSHROOMS
for
THOUSANDS OF YEARS
One more example of our
long and distant relationship
with mushrooms is through an
artwork
on a
cave wall
of a
BEEman
that is
over 5,000 years old.
It shows
the image of a man
with
mushrooms growing
all over
his body.
There are
varying degrees
of interpretation
for this work,
but one in particular
that I favour
is from
Paul Stamets
who said,
“Clearly this person
is excited about mushrooms!”
One more note
sounding strongly
is from
Terence Enna
who theorized
that our relationship
with mushrooms
was conducive
to the
evolution
of our consciousness.
This is not hard
to fathom
considering that
23 primates know,
recognize
and eat
mushrooms.
With this in mind,
Did You Know,
there are
140,000 known species
of mushrooms and,
of that 140,000
we can only
identify about
14,000 of them,
plus, of that 14,000
we have found
only 25 species
that are
fully compatible
with the
human biome.
It is postulated
that we used to have
extensive knowledge
of mushrooms—
It is a shame
we have lost this
knowledge.
