My hometown is 25 km further south in Herzegovina, closer to the sea. But both cities share the most beautiful, magical, crystal clear, very cold turquoise river Neretva. Neretva means Nera Etva which means God's gift. After the war years, half of my soul belongs to the Neretva and half to the Adriatic Sea (the river flows into the sea 9km south of Čapljina, my hometown).
The city of Mostar in southern Bosnia and Herzegovina is named after its most famous landmark, the Stari Most (Old Bridge). Originally a frontier town under the rule of the Ottoman Empire, the city was established in the 15th century in the valley of the Neretva River. Pre-Ottoman, eastern Ottoman, Mediterranean and European influences all contributed to the multicultural urban settlement.
