More about How Big is the Bang? from the Game of Creation series, part 2

Chapter 2: The Particle Contest
The Players stared at Theta's creation. A particle! A stable loop of energy that, as far as they could tell, wouldn’t vanish back into the Void right away. Now this was interesting.

But the Void was big, and one particle didn’t seem like enough.

Lambda narrowed his eyes. “I bet I can make one better.”

The challenge had been issued. Soon, all the Players were trying their hand at it. Some created particles with different spins, others with varying charges. The Void began to fill with these strange new entities—particles with mass, particles without mass, particles that behaved unpredictably when observed.

“Check this out!” shouted Q. “I call it a Photon. No mass, but it moves at the highest possible speed through whatever space we’re going to define!”

Theta wasn’t to be outdone. “Big deal. Watch this—I’ll make something with mass, but it’ll interact with everything. Behold: the Electron!”

A hum of excitement passed through the Players. Electrons and photons began to zip through the Void, creating a dazzling light show.

Player Z raised an eyebrow and said, “I can do you one better. What if I make something that can bind them all together?”

And with that, Protons and Neutrons were born.

The Void was starting to become a lively place. Particles whirled, spiraled, and collided with one another. The Players were thrilled, experimenting with the forces that kept their creations in check. Gravity, electromagnetism, and the weak and strong nuclear forces were all brought into play.
