Frimaire was the third month of the French Republican Calendar, corresponding to the period from roughly November 23rd to December 23rd. The name refers specifically to frost (whereas the 4th month, Nivôse, is named after snow). To capture the spirit of Frimaire I began with a photo taken during a recent morning walk along the edge of a snowy hayfield. Every blade and twig of plant life was covered with hoarfrost and rime ice from a freezing fog that must have rolled over the land the night before.
