The texture and sheen of the of the sea stars is wet and complex with a nonuniform lacework of light colored or off white dots. The group of sea stars covers a vertical rock face at low tide with some of the sea stars and parts of the larger ones immersed in a tide pool. At the top of the frame is a horizontal band of mussels, the favorite prey species of the sea stars.
