REFERENCE IMAGES: CR-01a – Mara CR-14 – The Faceless Stranger / Aven CR-11 – Horologia CR-09 – Tiktora Use references faithfully for appearance and clothing. IMPORTANT: Aven retains CR-14’s clothing and build but is no longer faceless; Aven now has a natural pale human face. Tiktora and Horologia must match their references, not ordinary clocks or humans. Chapter 36 – The Moment on Both Sides of the Beginning Part 2 – The Room the Cottage Could Not Enter Realistic painterly fantasy storybook illustration, 4:3 landscape, inside the mysterious Cottage of the Vanished Wizard. MAIN SCENE: Mara and Aven together lift the mysterious EIGHTH WOODEN CHAIR from the floor. They dominate the foreground. Mara is LEFT, matching CR-01a: long golden-blond hair, freckles, forest-green tunic, dark trousers, brown boots. A GREEN RIBBON is wrapped around her wrist. She grips one side of the chair and looks downward in astonishment. Aven is RIGHT, matching CR-14 in clothing and build but with a restored natural human face. Aven grips the opposite side and looks downward. Directly beneath the lifted chair, the wooden floor has vanished into a clean SQUARE OPENING glowing with cool pale-grey light. NOT a cellar, staircase or ordinary hole, but an impossible opening into another moment. Inside is the GREY ROOM: simple grey walls and ONE SECOND WOODEN CHAIR. A GREEN RIBBON is tied around its back. Behind this chair stands OLDER MARA, unmistakably Mara many years older, recognizable features, older golden-grey hair and aged green clothing. A green ribbon is around her wrist. She stands calmly looking upward toward present-day Mara. She does NOT climb out or reach upward. Tiktora and Horologia are small supporting figures in the DISTANT BACKGROUND, standing normally on the Cottage floor. They do NOT float or appear ghostlike. Tiktora holds the sequence reader; Horologia watches with concern. COMPOSITION: Mara left, Aven right, lifted chair centered between them. Square opening centered directly below. Older Mara and second chair clearly visible inside. Tiktora and Horologia remain separated in the far background. Warm amber light fills the Cottage with carved timber, bookshelves, magical objects, old doors and golden lamps. Cold pale-grey light rises dramatically from the opening and illuminates Mara and Aven from below. Exactly TWO Maras: present-day Mara above and older Mara below. Exactly TWO wooden chairs. No extra characters, random hands, floating figures, giant clocks, monsters or violence. Nobody looks at the viewer. Cinematic realistic painterly fantasy, natural anatomy, expressive faces, detailed wood and fabrics, soft volumetric light, subtle magical particles, mysterious temporal atmosphere. No title or unnecessary text. Small white full-body unicorn watermark with “AI by Unicorngraphics” bottom-right.

“Because for fifty-five, we had already reached the end.” Nobody answered. Aven still held the green ribbon. Mara stared at them. “That needs more explanation.” “I do not have it.” Sir Fegelot groaned. “Of course not.” Horologia examined the ribbon. “You remember being there?” “Only now.” “With Mara?” “Yes.” “When?” Aven looked at Tiktora’s reader. “That question may no longer mean anything.” Both marks numbered 55 flashed. Memoris unfolded his letter. THE MOMENT CANNOT BE REACHED FROM INSIDE THE SEQUENCE. Biblior frowned. “Then we stop using the sequence.” “How?” Tiktora asked. Mara looked at the black key. It still pointed toward her. “Another road.” She took the ribbon and wrapped it around her wrist. The key turned toward the floor. A pale line appeared between the boards. Horologia crouched. “A doorway?” “No hinges,” Biblior said. The line climbed the wall, crossed the ceiling and vanished behind them. Aven watched it. “Not a door. A boundary.” Golden letters appeared above it. DO NOT CROSS. Mara smiled faintly. “Promising.” “Your definition of promising concerns me,” Horologia said. Mara moved the ribbon across the line. The Cottage screamed. Every lamp went dark. For one second grey walls surrounded them and a solitary chair stood nearby. Then the Cottage returned. A silver thread now ran through the ribbon. Tiktora gasped. “The mark after fifty-four changed.” “Again,” Mara said. Horologia caught her arm. “No. We nearly lost this room.” “But we saw the other one.” Aven shook their head. “You saw it. I remembered it.” Biblior studied the boundary. “Perhaps the Cottage cannot enter because it only contains moments it remembers.” Memoris’s letter answered. THE COTTAGE WAS NOT PRESENT. Mara looked at Aven. “When?” Ink formed beneath the sentence. WHEN FIFTY-FIVE HAPPENED. Sir Fegelot stared at the page. “A room belonging to this house existed when the house did not?” Madam Arabica clicked her lid. “Time continues to improve.” Horologia frowned. “Then the room cannot belong to the Cottage.” Mara touched the ribbon. “Maybe it belongs to us.” A memory struck her. Her hands tied the ribbon around a chair. Aven stood behind her. Beyond the grey walls lay darkness filled with distant golden lights. Mara heard herself say, “It only needs to survive long enough for me to find it.” Aven answered, “And if you never do?” “Then none of this happened.” The vision vanished. Mara caught the table. “I built the room.” Aven’s expression changed. “We built it.” “You remember?” “Enough. We made it from a road the Cottage could not remember.” Biblior whispered, “The first road.” The mark before one flashed. Golden words erupted across the walls. THE FIRST ROAD DOES NOT EXIST. Mara held up the ribbon. “Then explain this.” THE OBJECT IS AN ERROR. “It is evidence.” The Cottage shook. Doors appeared across the walls and opened onto darkness.
