Alice (Lewis Carroll character) runs straight toward us across the chessboard, heading for the last row's square, above which, like an object in a computer game, a golden multi-pointed crown illuminated with a blue halo hovers low. Pursuing the Alice are a furious black war elephant (a somewhat comical character combining the appearance of a black chess bishop and a real menacing war elephant with tusks and a raised trunk), along with a black war knight (a somewhat comical character that combines the appearance of the black chess knight with a leaping, shiny black horse with menacingly gleaming eyes and a row of magnificent horse teeth visible beneath its upper lip). The chase also involves two identical-looking black pawns (depicted as two clumsy, squat medieval foot soldiers in black battle armor, wearing closed helmets and holding swords). In the distance, threateningly waving her arms towards us, is the black chess queen with a black crenelated crown on her head, dressed in a black floor-length gown (looking like an evil fairy-tale queen). On the horizon at opposite corners of the image, the faint outlines of two black crenelated towers can be seen. The entire chase scene for the Alice takes place on the chessboard. The pursuit looks frantic and tense (as the black pieces rush to catch the Alice), and, at the same time, extremely comical.
A dynamic, surreal illustration in a mosaic and stained glass art style depicts a girl running across a giant chessboard under a turbulent sky. The girl, in the center, has long blonde hair streaming back and wears a blue and yellow dress. She is sprinting towards the viewer on a checkered board made of colorful, glowing stained glass tiles in shades of blue, yellow, and orange, surrounded by smoke and clouds. To her left, two small, armored figures with pointed helmets and spears chase her. To her right, a grotesque, angular horse-like creature with a spear pursues her. Above her, a massive, grotesque queen with wild hair and a crown leers down, pointing angrily. In the sky, a glowing, golden crown floats within a sun-like orb, surrounded by swirling clouds and distant fantasy castles. The lighting is ethereal and dramatic, casting a golden glow over the entire scene.
