Prompt

Full-width, broad, 16:9 format of an extremely detailed, delicate, intricate, multicolored linocut all the way to the edge, rich colors, executed on rough handmade paper of poem number 94, Sangi Masatsune, of the Ogura Hyakunin Isshu: "From Mount Yoshino / Blows a chill, autumnal wind. / In the deepening night / The ancient village shivers: / Sounds of beating cloth I hear." The linocut shows a naturalistic close-up of an older Japanese peasant woman in simple work garb beating woven wool lying on a smooth stone surface. She is raising her right arm, in which she is holding a simple wooden hammer that she uses to beat the woolen cloth. This process will make the cloth more durable, warmer, softer and water-resistant. Behind the woman, we see the lights in the windows of the ancient village on the mountainside as night falls. The horizon is still light blue, but the blue of the sky deepens toward the top of the image. A chilly wind whisks and twirls late autumn leaves in a flurry surrounding the woman. Color palette of rich colors, shades of blue in the sky and work garb, yellow in the windows of the houses, mostly grays and browns for the houses, tan for the wooden hammer-like mallet, gray for the stone on which the wool fabric lies, and anthracite for the woollen cloth. Clarity of rendering, masterful linocut in several layers and with highly intricate detail, clearly visible, short cuts with the linocutter. Exquisite Japanese folio.
