First, she applies a base of deep, shimmering tones that accentuate the natural shade of his face. She adds metallic accents that glitter like stardust on his skin, and gives his eyes a deeper intensity with dark, smoky shadows. As she works, she speaks quietly to the Grim Reaper, asking him about his work and the secrets he holds.
"You have an interesting task," says Lydia, as she adds the final details with a fine brush. "It must be lonely, always gathering souls."
The Grim Reaper replies thoughtfully, "It is a task that is often misunderstood. I bring peace, but yes, it is a lonely existence."
As Lydia completes her work, the Grim Reaper steps back and looks at himself in the mirror. His face is now a masterful blend of darkness and radiance, a perfect balance between his sinister nature and the elegance Lydia has bestowed upon it.
"You have given me more than just a new look," the Grim Reaper says quietly. "You have made me feel, for a moment, that even I am part of this living world."
Lydia remains in her parlor, filled with the knowledge that she has been able to bring a little beauty and humanity even to death.
