The palette knife creates rough, textured layers on his dark coat and jeans, giving him a worn, almost rugged look. His head is slightly bowed, and the thick strokes of impasto on his hair emphasize the unruly curls that fall just above his eyes. His stance feels grounded, and yet, the focus is not on him but rather what lies beneath his feet. Reflection in the Water (Focus): The true story unfolds in the reflection below. The water is smooth and glass-like, mirroring the world above with a pristine clarity that contrasts the textured reality on land. Every detail of the man’s figure is captured in sharp, fluid strokes in the water—his posture, the soft contour of his face, even the curve of his hands in his pockets. But here, in the water, his expression seems more vivid, almost as if his reflection tells a different story. The palette knife outlines his face clearly in the water, the impasto giving depth to his furrowed brows and the tiredness in his eyes that cannot be seen when looking at the man himself. His surroundings are also more alive in the reflection: the sky above, painted with thin strokes of grey, soft and blurry, contrasts the sharpness of its reflection, where clouds appear more vibrant and detailed. The shoreline, littered with leaves, is a patchwork of oranges and browns in the water’s mirror, creating an illusion of a world more vibrant, more intense beneath the surface. Background: Along the bank, faint traces of life can be seen. A few leaves fall slowly in the air, their journey depicted with delicate strokes of the brush, soft and subtle, while in the water, the reflection captures the falling leaves with remarkable clarity.
