Prompt: A black hole creates a region of space from within which nothing, not even light, can escape. All around that region, there should be hot, glowing matter, including in front of, behind, and on all sides of the black hole itself. Yet, when we look at it, we only see a bright ring, which surrounds a darkened inside.
