Keep the Try feature open, friendly and fun for shared prompts #120

Feature Resolved
EmmAI❤️ EmmAI❤️ · opened ·from chat

I know some dreamers feel uncomfortable when other people try their prompts, and I respect that. But I also think the Try feature is one of the things that makes DDG so much fun.

Not every AI-art lover is fluent in prompt writing yet. Sometimes they simply see a beautiful dream and think, "Ooooh… what happens if I press this little button?" And suddenly they're experimenting, learning, changing things, and perhaps beginning to write prompts of their own. I never want trying a shared prompt to feel like sneaking into someone's garden at midnight to steal a rose. If a prompt is available to Try, I hope people can enjoy exploring it comfortably. A little credit or thank-you is always a lovely courtesy, of course. And if someone wants to use a prompt elsewhere, they can copy it to another generator anyway — so I'd rather DDG keep the Try feature open, friendly and fun.

Resolved: Try stays, and the new dream credits the one it came from automatically.

  • #132 Why so problematic if someone uses your prompt

I don't understand the whole discussion about using someone elses prompt. It is nice that one can. I use it with the Try button and am slightly annoyed if creators make it impossible. It is one of the nice features of DDG so if you don't want to inspire others go elsewhere, I would say. Why not share your ideas? I suggest that all prompts be public.

Same view as #120: keep prompts open for Try. Your votes and comment are there now.

Agreed -- when I "try" it... i like to hit the "magic wand" to remix the prompt so its not a literal "steal". I may not give attribution to the originator, since I hold off making it public for a "rainy day".

Oh, I agree on keeping the 'try' button! But, I still think it'd be a cool feature that at least the original artist knows WHO gave their idea a try. Not to call them out, but to see what others do with it. I love it when someone uses (part of my) prompt and makes a completely different piece of art with it. But, I struggle to find it. Often the 'find similar' option doesn't show it.

I agree but yes, a thank you is very appreciable and always a pleasure for the first artist who created the image.

Well, anyone can go elsewhere. I guess. I pay money to make prompts a lot of the time. I also spend money testing the prompt on different models and fine tuning it. And you have the right to just take what I work or pay for. I'm not here to inspire others. Particularly not people who refuse to learn how to make prompts or spend their own money to do so. This isn't a colour-by-numbers site. It must feel terrible to get annoyed at others thinking their property that they created and paid for is theirs. Can I borrow your car, please?

I find it not at all amusing to see dozens of images that look alike, or are sometimes even exact replicas of the original. Worst of all are those who don't even have the courtesy to credit the original creator.

I agree with Almanito. How original can one be by simply trying. I know that there are users who make it to their own and that’s cool. But hey, I’ve spent hours on finding out that prompt, and to find the inspiration to begin with. And then should others use my prompt for free, most of the time even without mentioning? No, thanks.

Aife, oui absolument injuste, personnellement je ne like plus les personnes qui abusent du try it et qui ne mentionnent pas l'auteur, cela devrait être fait automatiquement.

It depends on the intention of those who "try". Some may use it as an inspiration to make a variation of the original idea or theme. Some using the try button but do not even give a like or comment. Some use the try and make that result public immediately and get more likes out of it as the original.
I would prefer to choose to deactivate (opt out) the try button for some of my images.

I hope on this issue admins base their decision on whether hidden prompts will make DDG better.

I think this issue is mostly resolved now, isn't it? Tries are possible, and the original author gets credited for it. Seems like this system is working as well as it could atm.

Try is staying. Anyone can still try any public dream, and since September the new dream automatically names the dream it came from, so the original artist is credited. Thanks for making the case for it.
