“Dinner for One,” in which a butler pours wine for an elderly lady sitting alone at a table with six empty chairs; in the background is a dresser with a mirror, and a bearskin rug lies on the floor—all depicted as a black-and-white photograph
A full, eye-level, medium shot depicts a formal dinner setting in black and white. An older man in a tuxedo is standing behind an elderly woman, pouring wine into her glass. The scene is illuminated by dim, warm candlelight and soft, moody ambient light, creating deep shadows. The elderly woman, with short, curly grey hair, is seated at a large, rectangular dining table covered in a white tablecloth. She wears a patterned, long-sleeved blouse and is looking forward, her hands resting on the table. The man, wearing a black suit with a white shirt and bowtie, leans slightly forward as he pours wine from a dark bottle. The dining table is meticulously set with white plates, silverware, wine glasses, and a small flower arrangement in the center. The table is surrounded by six dark wooden chairs with ornate, carved backs. Behind the table, against a plain, dark wall, stands a large, ornate wooden dresser with a mirror, two lit candles in holders, and decorative items. A dark, fluffy rug with a light-colored center lies on the polished wooden floor in the foreground. The overall atmosphere is formal, quiet, and slightly melancholic.
