At sixteen, she studied psychology in school and was familiar with the power of suggestion and association. Nancy was a fine artist, spoke French, and often drove motor launches. She was an experienced driver who, at sixteen, could drive into a garage. She was a gifted shot, an excellent swimmer, an experienced oarsman, a seamstress, a good cook, and an excellent bridge player. Nancy played tennis and golf brilliantly and rode like a cowboy. Nancy danced like Ginger Rogers and could administer first aid like the Mayo brothers. Nancy never lacks for money and in later series often travels to distant countries, such as Nairobi in The Mystery of the Sapphire Spider (1968), Austria in Captive Witness (1981), Japan in The Runaway Bride (1994), and Costa Rica in The Scarlet Macaw Scandal (2004). Nancy is also free to travel around the United States in her car, which is described in most books as a blue convertible. Despite the problems and expenses, Nancy has never accepted monetary aid.
