An old miner, covered in dirt and soot, stands at the entrance of a dark mine shaft, which is framed by heavy wooden beams and metal supports. He wears a dirty brown work jacket and a hard hat with a headlamp on top, its brass fixture gleaming. His face, weathered and marked with dirt, shows a mustache and a grizzled beard, and he looks directly at the viewer with a stern expression. In his right hand, he carries a metallic lunch pail or container, also showing signs of wear. To the left of the mine entrance, a rough dirt road winds uphill, flanked by rocks and some scattered debris, with power lines and wooden utility poles visible in the distance against a hazy, mountainous landscape with evergreen trees.
