ArtistA portrait of the fishmonger with coals in her sleek, translucent hair, amidst a forest of mussels in an oyster bed; with Scouts running every which way, blowing into hunting horns fitted with kazoos; on a racetrack, pink-painted Citroën Tractions—spotted green like fuzzy Angora ladybugs—alongside Rio Carnival dancers wearing corrugated-iron hats and gold-and-zebra-striped flip-flops; all set against the electronic snow of Zulu postal workers from the bar across the street, loudly blowing their noses into beer mugs.
A surrealistic painting depicts a young woman with a long dark hair that consists of mussel shells and is intertwined with mussel shells in the foreground, facing right, looking out over a fantastical landscape. Behind her, a row of identical pink Citroën 2CV cars with green grassy roofs drives along a dirt track, with a group of women in green furry outfits and silver bucket hats dancing alongside them. In the background, three men dressed as scouts play horns in an oyster field stretching out to a cloudy horizon. The dirt track has a grandstand with spectators in the far background.
