Note: This comes from Paolo Uccello' painting of a battle in which the army is more or less implied by a forest of pears or pikes which were little ore than pointed sticks carried by men drafted in to fight for their lord. That is not a very impressive weapon but a large number of pike carrying men could, it seems, present a formidable threat. The picture is combined with another Uccello painting of a hunt in a forest so here we see the hunt and the battle combined.
