The figure of the knight Tristan is a little dig at literature. However, it does not reflect the story of the two.
Knight Tristan is a young nobleman who has apparently only recently received his knighthood. He is infatuated with the young nobleman's daughter Isolde, but she rejects him because of his impetuous nature and awkward attempts at courtship. She first asks him to make a name for himself, but does so with the intention of getting rid of him. Tristan's reaction to this is to challenge anyone he meets to a duel under arms. Regardless of whether they have done anything to him or are even of the same class as Tristan.
